Deepavali 2016 Celebration

Srimathe Ramanujaya Nama:
Priya arangan adiyars,

Srimad Bhagavada puranam, which tastefully sings about the leelas of Lord Krshna, at the start of Skandam-6, relates the story of one "Ajamila".

'Ajamilan', was born in a good family, but by his past Karma, circumstances contrived to make him lead a life of in disciple and uncouthness.  He had several children, but the last one who he named ‘Narayanan’, he had great fondness for. Ajamilan was bed-ridden and knew that his end had come.  He could see the ‘demons’ coming to take him away!   Out of fear and distress, he called out for his pet-son - ”Na…raa…ya..naaa”.   The boy heard him but could not be disturbed from the game he was playing with his friends! Lord Narayana, counted Ajamila’s call as ‘surrender’ at His Lotus Feet – and sent the Vishnu-parshadas to retrieve Ajamila from the Yama-parshadas.

The Lord’s Daya, Kshama and Karunya flow thus, without reason, even to the otherwise most Undeserving Soul !

On 27 October 2016, our volunteers went to to the Housing Board colony where about 50 families of visually challenged people live, with gifts of Sarees, Pant-bits and Sweets-n-savories for Deepavali, just like in the past few years.

While on one hand, the Joy of Giving overwhelmed us, on the other, one was forced to ask “why me?” …. Why has the Lord blessed us with a perfect body and mind while that is not the case with several others!?!

What singles us out in His eyes - to receive this Grace ?!?

There is no answer but to realize He is ‘Avyaja Karuna Murthy’ – his Kindness towards us brooks No Reason. (hence memories of the Ajamila-story !)

Distributed deepavali sweet and savory packets (Prasadham of koorathazhwan) to all students and teachers of South Renga Middle School, East Renga Middle School, Aranganayaki Primary School. The Headmistress and Teachers thanked the trust for its Continuous service to provide Prasadhams Every Year.

Distributed deepavali Sweet and savories Packets to all students and teachers of Acharyah School for Leaders. The specialty of the sweet is it was prepared at the madapalli and offered to Azhwan. So all got prasadams and blessings of Azhwan.

The Spirit of the volunteers and the Gurukulam children in contribution to the kainkaryam can never be captured by words! The dress and prasadam were distributed to the children of gurukulam, the teachers of gurukulam and the teachers of extra curricular activities. The events at gurukulam were held in Conjunctions with the parents-teachers meeting.

Srimaan Trust's service to humanity in spiritual ways is ceaseless. As usual this year also Srimaan Trust arranged to issue Sweet and Savory pockets to Blind men and women association. 50 members given dress and savories. Their joy shone in their innocent smile.

Srimaan Trust got blessed to serve on deepavalli festival the madapalli kainkaryaparas of chola nadu divya desams including Srirangam. Also the other kainkaryaparas of Srirangam temple were offered for deepavali festival. Vasthrams, sweets, sambavanai were offered to all before deepavali who expressed their surprise and pleasure to receive them. We do pray Sriranganatha to bless us with more kainkaryam of helping the kainkaryaparas in more occasions.

On the occasion of Deepavalli, Srimaan Trust had its plans of spreading Sweetness. Sweets and Savouries were prepared and offered to Lord Narasimha and Sri Koorathazhwan at Swami Koorathazhwan Sannidhi. Prasadams sincerely packed and distributed to roadside pavement dwellers by the volunteers. We always wonder how these people dwell in such spaces.

Deepavali Celebration 2016

Srimate Ramanujaya nama:

Priya arangan adiyars,

Deepavali is an occasion when our mind is filled with thoughts of serenity and our mouths with savories. Beyond all this, it is the warmth and love of the family that lightens our heart. The love of the parents and spouse and the glitter in the eyes of our children is our true Deepavali. The moments with them are what we cherish and yearn for. When it comes to Namperumal and Srirenganachiar, it is the happiness of their adiyars that kindles their happiness and gives them satisfaction. And more than the grown adiyars like us, their pleasure would double if the adiyars are pure hearted children whom we ourselves adore.

At Srimaan Trust, as Servants in the execution of the Divine Couples’ wishes, we celebrate Deepavali lighting up the faces of the children by preparing savories and distributing it to them. In addition, we also plan to honour the Acharya Purushas and the service-providers (Kainkaryaparas) of Srirangam temple by distributing the savories to them. To us the glitter emitted from the faces and hearts of the children and the bhagavathas is far far more joyous than lighting up the sky with crackers.

This year around, the Trust has planned to prepare savories and distribute to the following:

Number (approx.)
Acharya Purushas
Kainkaryaparars of Srirangam temple
Our Gurukulam (SBG) Srimaan Bhattar Kuzham children
Acharyah school children
South Ranga School children
Aranganayaki school
Disabled families, road side needy etc.
Kainkaryaparars of Srimaan Trust

The following would be the prasadams that will be prepared, and distributed to the above adiyars :

200 kgs of mixture
3000 Sweets

For the above, our actual cost is as follows:

New clothes for needy and physically challenged people
Rs. 25,000
Sarees and Veshtis for to the koil kainkaryaparar’s families
Rs. 20,000
Total Amount
Rs. 1,40,000

It is only on such occasions that we can feel the happiness that pervades the heart of children and Bhagavathas. It would be a pleasure to watch the mere scene of children tearing open the pack of sweets and thrusting them into their mouths. If this happens due to our humble contribution, the pleasure will double just as a mother watching her children eat her hand made delicacies. And our Divine Parents would be very happy with the way we have celebrated the most celebrated festival of our Nation. Hence, we put before you to make your contributions to this Divine and of course, very sweet cause.

Srimathe Ramanujaya Nama:
Priya arangan adiyars,

We live in such a tumultuous world today that hardly a day passes without someone trying to “break-free” and “revolutionize” things or events. There is a short-lived excitement in breaking with the norm. Elderly voices might chide such actions as rank indiscretions. But, the young at heart need not feel that all is lost.

The most enduring memories of Krishna involve the breaking of something or the other. We can find solace that the master mischief-maker is well and truly at work. If there is anyone who can get busy just at mischief, it is Krishna.

Be it the breaking of shackles that bound His parents in prison, or the breaking of pots as a child, or the breaking of the promise to not lift a weapon in war, it is a sequence of something breaking. Unlike the revolutions humans are capable of, which eventually lead to despair and confusion, it becomes a cause for joy when Krishna breaks something.

We gasp in wonder when the shackles of prison drop off. We are filled with mirth and awe as He runs around as a small kid stealing butter and breaking pots. We are moved with disbelief and belief, sentiments equal in measure, as He breaks His own vow to protect His devotee.

What could be special in the act of God, born child, breaking pots for butter?

For our times, it contains a profound message, and it is a message that acts at both levels of legend and life.  It moves our saints to states of deep spiritual experience. The Master of the universe decides to incarnate, and allows Himself the simple pranks of a child with an intention to charm His devotees.

The breaking of fetters will keep recurring a thousand times in the world if the inner fetters of the ego are not broken. When they are broken, what remains is the pure soul, enjoyable to Krishna as butter.

The self-fulfilled being is trying to seek out His butter which is all of us. In what can lie our fulfillment than to be consumed and enjoyed by Krishna?

As the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam says (through the voice of Gopīs), “akṣanvatāṃ phalamidaṃ na paraṃ vidāmaḥ” – “We know of nothing greater for those with eyes (than the sight of Krishna)!” Likewise, what can be greater for each of us, who exist, than to be offered to Krishna? Can there be any other worthwhile purpose to exist? What results then but pure joy!

The act of breaking the pot is captured in the tradition of uriyaḍi enacted during Śrī Jayanti. During the celebrations of Krishna Jayanti this year, the students of Srimaan Bhattar Gurukulam as also from Srimaan Bhattar Kuzham enacted this great tradition with festivity.

The students of Gurukulam conducted Thiruvaymozhi ghoshti on the days leading to the Śrī Jayanti. They performed Thirumanjanam and conducted procession for their Krishna.

While understanding the purpose of existence is vital, it is even better when it comes young. Many saints consider themselves truly born only after realizing this purpose. An early awakening saves one from regret of losing out on the joy of living with a clean svarupa.

Śrī Jayanti is a time for joy and celebration. The festivities carry with them the invitation to each of us to be born again with Krishna on this day, as we remember our purpose.
